• NE Tibetan Plateau granites show δ41K from −0.686‰ to −0.148‰. • S-type granites have light K from sedimentary sources. • I-type and adakitic granites have heavier K from igneous protoliths. • Residual phases during partial melting drive K isotope-Sr/Y trends. • Source heterogeneity first-order controls K isotope diversity.
