Abstract

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based channel sounding and antenna measurement have been attracting significant interest. However, acquiring complex channel frequency responses (CFRs) with accurate phase is often challenging due to strict UAV payload constraints and synchronization complexities. This letter proposes a novel array signal processing framework to retrieve the power-angle-delay profile using only scalar frequency responses in line-of-sight (LOS) environments. By exploiting the strong LOS path typically present in air-to-ground links, which naturally favors the minimum-phase condition, the proposed method first reconstructs the phase response via the Hilbert transform. Furthermore, with a priori knowledge of the LOS path distance, angle of arrival, and array geometry, an LOS path calibration and relative phase compensation procedure is introduced to restore the original complex CFRs of all array elements. Experimental validation in a controlled LOS scenario demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, offering a low-cost phaseless solution for constrained UAV-assisted measurement applications.
