Characterizing nanotopographies often relies on global measures to quantify spatial autocorrelation like correlation functions, the Hurst exponent, and more recently the Global Moran Index (GMI); however, these metrics frequently overlook local heterogeneity and subtle topographic variations that occur at the nanometric scale.
