• Metallic Indium is proposed as a superior anodic interlayer for all-solid-state anode-free Li metal batteries. • The enhanced utilization of lithium is rendered feasible in a low-capacity lithium metal battery. • All-solid-state LFP|LLZTO|In|Cu exhibited effective capacity retention under no external pressure or with excess Lithium species in the battery.
