• This review summarizes recent advances in spectrally engineered textiles (SETs), clarifying the fundamental principles and physical mechanisms of thermal regulation—specifically spectral absorption, reflection, and transmission. • It outlines spectral design strategies for cooling and heating across different wavelength bands, highlighting how they integrate materials, structures, and properties to enable adaptive performance in diverse applications. • Key progress in dynamic spectral control, color functionality, and self-cleaning is highlighted to address practical implementation challenges. • Current limitations and emerging opportunities are discussed to guide the development of next-generation functional textiles.
