Quantum-enhanced microscopes capable of probing classically in-accessible material properties have drawn increasing interest, but most proof-of-principle quantum micro-scopes have not surpassed classical limits. We discuss the promise and obstacles associated with the use of quantum light with reduced noise ('squeezed' light) for quantum-enhanced atomic force microscopy, bioimaging, magneto-optical measurements, and Raman spectroscopy.
