Two novel nitrate-bridged trinuclear complexes, [Co3(L)2(eta 2-NO3)2] (1) and [Zn3(L)2(eta 2-NO3)(eta 1-NO3)] (2), were synthesized from an asymmetric naphthaiene-derived Salamo-type ligand (H2L). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals distinct coordination geometries: Complex 1 adopts a symmetric structure with six-coordinate Co(II) ions, whereas Complex 2 features an asymmetric unit containing both five- and six-coordinated Zn(II) ions. The +2 oxidation state of cobalt in 1 was confirmed by BVS calculations. A combination of spectroscopic techniques (IR, UV-Vis, fluorescence), DFT calculations, and topological analysis (Hirshfeld surface, MEP, IRI) was employed to elucidate the electronic structure and intricate weak interactions governing the stability of these systems. Furthermore, antimicrobial activity studies highlight the potential of these complexes as promising agents in biological applications.
