• NH3 suppresses soot and shortens flame height in CH4/NH3 diffusion flames. • High-temperature zone shifts downstream as NH3 blending ratio increases. • OH* intensity decreases while CH* shows an N-type trend with rising NH3 ratio. • NHi radicals compete with CH4 intermediates and alter OH* formation pathways. • Simulations clarify OH* generation and quenching mechanisms in NH3/CH4 flames.
