Abstract

The application of Battery-based Energy Storage System (BESS) has many benefits in the power grid such as frequency support, emergency assistance, lowering costs, and flattening the load curve. In this paper, a modified stochastic security-constrained unit commitment (SCUC) model is introduced to simulate the daily operation of power system. By setting both installed position and capacity of BESS as optimization variables, the model can give the optimal location and capacity of BESS simultaneously. Scenario trees are adopted to represent the forecasting inaccuracies of wind power and load. Furthermore, a benders decomposition based algorithm is used to solve the model. Two classical cases, IEEE 6-bus and IEEE 118-bus system, are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
