• Synthesis of two different alkyl chain choline ILs as water-based additives. • 1% ILs reduces the friction up to 18.18% and wear rate up to 50% at 1A current. • Under electric field electro-shear coupling forming a dense protective film. • ILs inhibit E. coli growth, aligning with green chemistry principles.
