• TMC-49 boiling cooling was tested for ultrafast electric-vehicle cables. • The maximum allowable charging current reached 3774.7 A. • Upward flow prevented dryout up to the maximum tested power. • Downward flow improved heat transfer but reduced the dryout margin. • A TMC-49-based system showed MW-class charging-cable cooling potential.
