• δ13C of soil varied with the content and sources of inorganic C in coastal paddies. • Total inorganic C did not change with salinity but increased with Ca content. • Lithogenic carbonate decreased but pedogenic carbonate increased with desalinization. • Desalinization increased pedogenic carbonate via increased SOC and microbial activity
