Abstract

• Sulfur is recycled from sodium lignosulfonate pyrolysis flue gas to prepare NC/CdS. • NC builds interfacial non-covalent C···S tetrel and O···S chalcogen bonds with CdS. • Hole transfer is facilitated by electronic-structure matching and tetrel/chalcogen bonds. • Structural and chemical stability of the composite catalyst is greatly raised. • High anti-photocorrosion and H2 production performance are achieved.
