• Ecosystem maps cover 9% of areas reserved for development in Norwegian municipalities. • We made a model-based map of 17 ecosystem types with wall-to-wall cover in Norway. • Model-based ecosystem maps may support spatial planning in early stages. • Appropriate use of ecosystem maps for decision-making requires uncertainty estimates.
