• A single-phase BFCSx electrolyte is developed for LT-SOFCs via Fe/Co tuning. • BFCS8 achieves 0.142 S cm−1 ionic conductivity and 708 mW cm−2 at 520 °C. • Proton conductivity of 0.092 S cm−1 is estimated for BFCS8 using a BZCY blocking layer. • Fe/Co ratio tuning widens the bandgap and suppresses electronic conduction effectively. • This work offers a simpler single-phase alternative to two-phase heterostructure electrolytes.
