• Nanosecond-pulse laser enables dry, non-contact surface revitalization of LMAs. • A-mode ablation selectively removes the ill-defined native oxide layer on Li. • S-mode smoothing heals structural defects via controlled melting and reflow. • Dual-pulse A/S processing sustains 200 cycles in 4.0 mAh cm−2 Li||NMC622 cells. • Laser treatment revitalizes even severely oxidized Li foils for sustainable reuse.
