• Sustainable lignin graft elastomers were synthesized via homogeneous RAFT polymerization. • The mechanical properties of lignin-based elastomers can be systematically adjusted by the PAM and lignin contents. • These lignin-derived elastomers show outstanding UV-shielding performance. • These lignin graft copolymers possess extraordinary photothermal conversion ability. • A photothermal power generation system was designed to broaden the applications.
