Dynamic wireless power transfer shows increasing promise to help reduce electric vehicle battery size, help eliminate fears of range anxiety, and increase the number of charging options for consumers. However, given the rising concepts of vehicle to grid integration (V2G) and bidirectional static wireless charging, traditional passive rectification techniques for DWPT systems are inadequate. Therefore, synchronous rectification should be implemented to reduce overall system complexity, improve efficiency, and allow for compatibility with V2G technologies. To integrate active rectification into a dynamic system, an effective means of synchronization needs to be established. This paper presents a novel synchronization controller that utilizes initial free resonant bridge currents induced in the rectifier to determine initial phase and frequency discrepancies between the primary inverters and rectifier. The controller is then able to regulate the rectifier bridge current. The system is then validated through simulation and experimental results.
