● Si alloying and plastic deformation synergistically optimize the thermal expansion and mechanical properties of Mg–Li alloys. ● Residual stress effects were investigated, while first-principles calculations clarified the low-CTE mechanism of Mg2Si. ● Mg2Si/matrix interfaces were characterized to clarify their roles in thermal expansion and mechanical properties.
