• 1, Three pyrene-based small-molecule were designed and synthesized. • Nitrogen incorporation lowers LUMO levels, enhancing electron-deficient character. • The electronic structure and packing motif can be tuned by substitution site. • Featuring 2D brickwork packing, 1,6-5FPyNN achieve electron mobility of 1.64± 0.29 cm2 V-1 s-1.
