• Synergy of imine and dicyano modifications enhances photoelectric properties. • TAT-EDOT with dicyano-introduced acceptors effectively enhances ICT. • Replacing vinyl with imine makes the π-electron delocalization more continuous. • The PCE of MS-1-3 is enhanced by 33.63% compared with that of MS-1. • The potential of dicyano and imine groups in the field of DSSCs was explored.
