• CoPMo/meso-Y composites exhibit good catalytic activity and recyclability for thioether oxidation. • Synergy of meso-Y (H+/e− transfer) and Co2+ boosts Mo5+, optimizing redox properties. • Non-radical peroxo-metal intermediate enables cooperative valence turning via support acidity and metal ions.
