• Designing high-efficiency SnS2/g-C3N4 photocatalyst via silver decoration by photoreduction method for enhanced hydrogen. • Ag-loaded nanocomposite boosts visible light absorption due to its localised surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect. • Almost 2.36 times more H2 evolution was observed for the 3% Ag/SnS2/g-C3N4 as compared to other prepared compositions. • Enhanced photocatalytic performance is supported by the photoconductivity study of Ag/SnS2/g-C3N4 nano-heterostructures.
