• A six-arm phosphazene-imidazolium based crosslinking agent (ISP) was synthesized. • ISP was used as a crosslinker in the synthesis of p(1-vinylimidazole) ionogel. • VI@ISP ionogel was used as a drug carrier in the release of RNA and NaDc. • Drug-loaded VI@ISP ionogels showed antibacterial properties.
