• Nanocomposites of HPMC/PVA/PVP-ZnO/Fe2O3 was prepared by casting method. • The optical properties of the HPMC/PVA/PVP-ZnO/Fe2O3 samples are improved. • The electrical properties of the HPMC/PVA/PVP-ZnO/Fe2O3 samples are improved. • The dielectric properties of the HPMC/PVA/PVP-ZnO/Fe2O3 samples are studied. • The nanocomposites films were suggested to be used in energy storage applications
