• Corrosion behavior of aging-treated DED-Arc Mg-Gd-Y alloys is investigated • DED-Arc Mg-Gd-Y alloys with distinct precipitate characteristics are obtained • Under-aged alloys show better initial resistance than solution-treated alloys • Modifying precipitate characteristics enables control of corrosion resistance
