The Analgesic Effects of Ultrasound-guided Recto-intercostal Fascial Plane Block in Laparoscopic Hiatus Hernia Repair: A Randomized Double-Blind Controlled Study

• The recto-intercostal fascial plane block (RIFPB) targets the anterior and lateral cutaneous branches of the T6–T9 intercostal nerves, which may offer analgesia for the anterolateral upper abdominal procedures. • The perioperative pain management in laparoscopic hiatus hernia repair (LHHR) was not sufficiently evaluated, and the RIFPB was neither assessed in any abdominal surgeries nor in any randomized studies. • This study revealed that the RIFPB significantly reduced the 24-h postoperative morphine dose. Also, the block resulted in a significant decrease in the intraoperative fentanyl dose, the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, and the postoperative pain scores, with prolongation of the time to the first morphine request and enhancement of the patient satisfaction scores.
