Abstract

Abstract

The bond performance at the textile reinforced concrete (TRC)-masonry interface is important. To simulate the actual deterioration conditions before the reinforcement of existing masonry structures, the bond performance was investigated by selecting deteriorated masonry as the research object and employing single-lap shear tests along with energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) analysis. With increasing bond length, the failure mode shifted from textile-matrix slip to combined slip and fiber rupture. High-strength fine-grained concrete and ECC matrices exhibited stable failure modes across erosion cycles, whereas low-strength matrices transitioned to premature slip under prolonged exposure. Peak load initially increased with erosion cycles (up to 4.79% at 200 cycles) before declining (up to 45.51% at 300 cycles). The effective bond length of the M2 matrix was 150 mm. After 300 cycles, the ECC matrix sustained a peak load of 2.07 kN (COV: 2%), 143.5% higher than that of fine-grained concrete (0.85 kN, COV: 3%), demonstrating superior durability. Textile utilization increased with bond length but showed a non-monotonic trend with erosion cycles. While the accelerated regime provides insights into bond degradation under simulated cold coastal environments, the results are based on laboratory-scale specimens, which may not capture long-term natural exposure effects. Further validation through field studies is recommended.
