• The middle-latency components of somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) help simplify the prognosis of post-anoxic coma. • Their presence preceded by an early SEPs of at least 4 μV, at 12 h after cardiac arrest, indicates recovery of consciousness. • Their absence at 72 h after cardiac arrest predicts severe disability.
