Abstract

Abstract

• Digital megaprojects are prominent in our modern economies. Digital megaprojects are more prone to failure than other types of projects due to their scale and complexity. • Current understanding of digital megaprojects remains limited. • We define digital megaprojects and identify their distinguishing characteristics: publicness, collectiveness, uncertainty and adaptiveness. • We present a framework that categorises management approaches across project types, highlighting the emerging paradigm needed for digital megaproject governance. • We propose an information systems research agenda to address critical knowledge gaps in digital megaproject scholarship.
