Violence against women is a complex phenomenon that intertwines historical, social, cultural, and political factors. Its deep roots in all cultures can be explained by the fact that it is the means by which the patriarchal system acts to discipline, subjugate, and establish hierarchical relationships between men and women, with serious consequences for women in all spheres of their lives. This research aimed to understand the configurations of female subjectivities of women who have experienced gender-based violence. We turned to the paradigmatic horizon of complexity, qualitative research, and feminist hermeneutics to understand the stories of the six women participants, which were collected through gender interviews and analyzed using Grounded Constructivist Theory. This article presents one of the most relevant findings, which proposes the category of worthlessness as a key characteristic of the subjectivities of women victims of violence, based on punitive actions, historical narratives, and the construction of the social representation of women as deserving of punishment. It concludes that worthlessness is the most forceful expression of the process of de-subjectification suffered by women in the patriarchal system.
