Abstract

• A systematic study on spectral broadening in RE-doped YSO and SYSO powders was conducted for the first time, along with the optimization of RE ion doping concentrations. • By combining infrared and Raman spectroscopy techniques, the maximum phonon energies of YSO and SYSO crystals were determined to be 993 cm−1 and 1004 cm−1, respectively. • The calculated bandgap using the HSE06 hybrid functional agree well with experimental results, confirming the wide bandgap transparency essential for laser host materials.
