In a recent paper published in Argumentation, Pyon (2025) argues that there exists a new kind of argument structure that is ubiquitous yet cannot be classified within the existing typology of argument structures. Given the relatively stable status of types of argument structure, the genuine discovery of a new structure would constitute a highly innovative contribution. This paper, however, argues that it is not new, insofar as both pragma-dialectics and informal logic can already accommodate it within their existing frameworks. I further clarify the pragma-dialectical view on argumentation structure, which differs from the informal logical approach primarily in its emphasis on descriptive rather than normative considerations.
