Abstract

• Four-year-old children succeeded on the RMTS task without training or feedback. • They performed equally well on same-only, different-only, and full RMTS trials. • Children who used relational language to justify choices tended to perform better on the RMTS task. • Command of the relational concepts same and different is linked to success on RMTS.
