The sample size matters: evaluating minimum and reasonable values in prevalence studies

Abstract
En 中文
• Small samples (n < 15) often yield unacceptable prevalence precision. • A sample size of 15–45 allows rough estimates but with high uncertainty. • At least 450 elements are required to estimate prevalences of 1% or 99%. • For prevalences of 5–95%, the optimal sample size ranges from 110 to 135 elements. • Sample until at least 5 infected and 5 uninfected hosts are detected.
