Abstract
En 中文
• Faunal necromass is a substantial but unquantified component of SOM, contributing to C storage and cycling. • Current amino sugar–based methods (e.g., glucosamine) cannot distinguish between fungal and faunal necromass, creating the “chitin conundrum”. • This methodological limitation biases estimates of fungal-derived C and obscures true contribution of soil fauna in biogeochemical models. • Advanced techniques are needed to resolve necromass sources and improve soil C predictions.
