This study explores a novel application of free radical polymerization (FRP) in plastination, employing n-butyl methacrylate (NBMA) and 2-ethylhexylmethacrylate (2-EHMA) as monomers with azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the thermal initiator. Plastination, a process replacing biological tissue fluid with curable polymers, preserves anatomical integrity, and produces safe-to-touch specimens while overcoming limitations associated with traditional preservation methods such as the use of formalin. Results demonstrated the effectiveness of NBMA and 2-EHMA in producing durable, odorless, and minimally distorted plastinates of swine organs. Plastinates with NBMA exhibited enhanced rigidity, whereas 2-EHMA provided greater flexibility. The described method significantly reduces costs and equipment requirements, offering a reproducible alternative for plastination with potential applications in anatomy education, research, and specimen preservation. Future research will explore the scalability to larger specimens, integration of color, enhanced flexibility, and microscopic structural preservation. This study contributes to the development of accessible, versatile plastination techniques, advancing the utility of FRP in plastination.
