• Thermally evaporated Cu–PQMHC films show an amorphous structure. • Photoluminescence exhibits broad emission with peaks at 417, 467, and 571 nm. • Strong UV absorption with indirect band gaps of 1.87 eV and 2.83 eV was observed. • Third-order nonlinear susceptibility (χ3 about 1.12 × 10−14 esu) confirms optical nonlinearity. • Au/Cu-PQMHC/n-Si/Al device shows clear photo-response for photodiode uses.
