• Thi@Zn-SA-CS possessed high loading capacity and encapsulation efficiency. • Thi@Zn-SA-CS exhibited superior control efficacy and prolonged duration against Aphis gossypii. • Zn-SA-CS acted as a zinc fertilizer to significantly promote cotton seedling growth. • Thi@Zn-SA-CS could effectively alleviate chemical stress in cotton and reduce acute toxicity to earthworms. • Thi@Zn-SA-CS provided a promising strategy for eco-friendly pesticide formulation and sustainable agriculture.
