Abstract

Context: In 2017, Beni et al. conducted a review of literature on meaningfulness in physical education and found evidence for qualitative aspects of children's participation, which included fun, social interaction, challenge, motor competence, and personally relevant learning. Although Kretchmar in 2005 advocated for the role of delight, it was not included in the review by Beni et al. in 2017 as there was insufficient evidence. Purpose: Researchers and teachers need clarity on the concept of delight and direction on how it might be purposefully included in physical education research and practice. This research note provides an outline of the concept of delight and, in the process, aims to clarify the place and relevance of delight in the practical enactment of approaches that support meaningful experiences for students in physical education.
