• A Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) algorithm for global coastal ocean was developed. • Optical (ESA OC-CCI) and environmental variables were integrated to estimate DOC. • In situ DOC data from CoastDOM v1 were used for model training and validation. • MLR, RF, and XGBoost were tested to estimate coastal DOC concentrations. • The study advances global carbon assessment in coastal waters.
