• A LWCRF method is proposed to quantify the impact of clouds on LWDR. • The proposed method achieves a theoretical accuracy of 3 W/m2. • COT's impact on the LWCRF estimation is nearly equivalent to CTT's. • With strong robustness, it provides a way to derive global long-term LWCRF.
