Abstract

In the political context, the media play an essential role in positioning issues on the public agenda, often using emotional appeal as a communication strategy. This article analyzed media coverage in Colombia during the month before and after the 2022 presidential inauguration. Through a lexicometric analysis of 48,984 tweets from nine major media outlets in the country, it examined how they respond to specific agendas through the selection of topics and the use of emotional content, with an emphasis on anxiety. The LIWC2025 dictionary was used for this purpose. The results showed that, after the inauguration, emotional content increased considerably, raising anxiety in eight of the nine media outlets, while only one showed the opposite trend. The study concludes that, after the inauguration, the media highlighted new topics, indicating a bias in coverage. At the time of the study, the data corresponded to the last presidential inauguration in the country, which remains highly relevant because it was a historic milestone: the arrival in power, for the first time in Colombia's modern history, of a left-wing president.
