Transition layer–controlled tribological performance of laser cladded Ni60WC coating on HT250 cast iron

The NiMo, NiCr and CuAl was used as transition layers to fabricate the Ni60WC coating on HT250 cast iron, and the effects of transition layer on the tribological properties was systematically investigated. The results show that the average coefficient of friction (0.116) of Ni60WC–NiCr coating is reduced by 46.0% and 54.2% compared with the Ni60WC–NiMo and –CuAl coatings, respectively; and the corresponding the wea rate (6.9 × 10–6 μm3·N–1·m–1) is decreased by 6.76% and 15.3%, respectively. The wear mechanism is oxidative wear, adhesive wear and abrasive wear, which is influenced by the type of transition layer.
