• A two-dimensional medium entropy NiCoFeMo-MOF electrocatalyst was synthesized. • NiCoFeMo-MOF was synthesized by a one-step room temperature ultrasonication method. • NiCoFeMo-MOF exhibits a sheet-like morphology with unique elemental distribution. • NiCoFeMo-MOF exhibits bifunctional OER and HER electrocatalytic performance. • This superior activity originates from electron redistribution among multi metals.
