Abstract

• Inflation and credibility are formulated as coupled interacting order parameters within a nonlinear Landau framework. • Inflation instability is governed by the smallest eigenvalue of a coupled curvature (Hessian) matrix. • Sectoral inflation exhibits a dominant collective mode identifiable through covariance spectral analysis. • The 2006–2012 financial crisis exhibits critical slowing down with approximate dynamic scaling behaviour. • The 2021–2023 inflation surge exhibits strong synchronisation without comparable critical slowing down. • Inflation dynamics are described as collective modes evolving on a production network.
