To reduce the cost associated with proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers for hydrogen production, the application of a thin layer of precious metal onto titanium felt is essential. In this study, a cost-effective technique - dual-anode electroplating - was employed to deposit a uniform platinum coating with a thickness of approximately 40-50nm onto the surface of titanium felt. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed that the platinum layer was uniformly distributed and completely covered the substrate surface. Electrochemical measurements indicated that the passivation range of the titanium felt was significantly extended after platinum deposition compared to the uncoated substrate, with a marked improvement in corrosion resistance. The platinum-plated titanium felt exhibited excellent corrosion resistance, showing no surface degradation after 72h of exposure to neutral salt spray and acid corrosion environments. This enhancement in corrosion resistance highlights the potential of this method for improving the durability and performance of PEM electrolyzers.
