• Ultrasound-assisted DES can effectively extract ursolic acid and oleanolic acid. • DES (DL-menthol/IPA) exhibits excellent biocompatibility with HUVEC cells. • SEM analysis confirmed that ultrasound-assisted DES effectively disrupted cell walls. • Quantum chemical calculations have revealed the extraction mechanism of DES.
