• This study introduces a novel hypergraph framework to model and forecast technology convergence. • The framework incorporates a probabilistic null model to identify statistically significant convergence. • Analysis reveals a historical shift from chemistry-led to computing-led convergence. • We develop structural, semantic and intrinsic features for hyperedge prediction. • The research uses explainable AI to generate actionable innovation policy insights.
