Abstract

• PSSs acted as overlooked sources of downstream sediment-associated ARGs. • Downstream had transitional ARG profiles between upstream and PSS sediments. • Sulfonamide, tetracycline ARGs, and mexB were enriched in downstream sediments. • qacEdelta1 and IS91 may be linked with sulfonamide ARG mobility. • Azonexus and Pseudomonas_E were dominant potential hosts of enriched ARGs.
